UNUSUAL "WHITE MARLIN" LANDED BY PANGA FISHING OFF PUNTA COLORADA
July 17, 2005, Jorge Bergin, La Ribera, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
John Guinn, my neighbor with a panga, asked me to fish yesterday. The sea stayed flat all morning, 79 degrees. We trolled east toward Punta Colorada staying close to shore, picking up a nice amberjack and some bonita for bait. Trolling dorado lures on top with bonita strips trailing, we saw a marlin hooked and lost. So we put out a pink EatMe, caught and released a 90 lb white marlin within 500 yards of the hotel. Then we saw a tuna caught, switched to tuna clones, caught 4 nice tuna, 12 to 18 lbs. The last brought up a nice dorado which we hooked on chunk bait, but it got off. All of this within view of my house, all in all a East Cape nice day. The radio said the big bite was east of Cerralvo, many, many marlin and tuna. |
