YELLOWFIN TUNA CAUGHT DAILY DURING FISHING TRIP TO HOTEL PUNTA COLORADA
Sept. 2, 2005, Bob Sivulka, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:
Three of us just got back from fishing at East Cape and had a "great trip." We were at East Cape from 8/26/05 to 8/30/05. We spent 3 days fishing with perfect weather other than "hot."
We caught yellowfin tuna every day from 15# to 50# all within 2 miles from the beach.
First East Cape fishing day: 12 Tuna & 1 Amberjack (12#).
Second East Cape fishing day: 7 Tuna.
Third East Cape fishing day: 3 Tuna and the icing on the cake was 6 Giant Squid to 50#.
We fished from Hotel Punta Colorada, on the Pez Gallo. The name of the captain was, Raymundo. We fished north about 2 miles and about 2 miles out from the dock at the hotel first thing in the morning until the bite slowed down around 10:00 a.m., and then we headed south about 12 miles to another high spot about 3 miles of the beach.
On the first 2 fishing days we got bait right at the dock, caballitos. The third fishing day we had to run south about 10 miles. However we caught about half of the fish on Megabaits, anchovy pattern. The water temperature was 85 degrees.
