Fishing on the East Cape, while down just a bit overall in terms of the all important fish-per numbers, was still productive this past week in many ways. There's some darn nice Yellowfin coming in right now with many in the 40-50 lb. class and quite a few even bigger, including a 150+ pound toad!
The East Cape Dorado bite is picking up ever so slightly. The billfish bite was down slightly. It's this time of year that we begin the final push in closing out the East Cape fishing season. From now until about Thanksgiving, we can expect, hope, to see some good fishing in terms of bigger Yellowfin Tuna and some real nice Dorado numbers. Of course, this year, we don't quite know what to expect in terms of the Dorado, but if mother nature plays her part, we will see some nice Dodo fishing at East Cape.
Last week the East Cape fishing area had calm days, but for the occasional afternoon breezes. Air temps ranged between 76-99 and surrounding areas continued seeing scattered thunderstorms. For most of the week, the water temp ranged between 84-88. Bait-wise, East Cape has mackerel, sardines, limited caballito, and plenty of calamari for those anglers with the means and the mettle to go out and make bait.

Specifically, the East Cape billfish bite was slightly down. Sailfish led the way with anglers reporting action to the north off Punta Pescadero, as well as to the south off Rancho Leonero, La Ribera, Cabo Pulmo, and Los Frailes.
Striped Marlin were close behind off Cerro Verde, and Punta Pescadero , as well as to the south between the waters of La Ribera , Los Cerritos , Cabo Pulmo , and Los Frailes .
Blue Marlin brought up the rear with limited action reported to the north.
The Dorado bite was up significantly at East Cape with an overall catch rate of about 15 percent.
The East Cape Yellowfin Tuna bite, while down just a bit, continued to impress with some serious poundage coming in. The hot spots for Yellowfin were straight off Los Barriles, as well as to the south off La Ribera with most action occurring at the La Ribera Bank at 2-3 miles.
