EAST CAPE SMOKE HOUSE WEEKLY SPORTFISHING REPORT

Nov. 4-10, 2005, Chris Moyers, East Cape Smoke House, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico:

Combined East Cape charter fishing fleets, including Hotel Palmas de Cortez, Hotel Playa del Sol, Rancho Leonero, Hotel Buena Vista, and Hotel Rancho Buena Vista: Charters 207; Anglers 600; Total Fish 446; Fish/Charter 2.15; Fish/Angler .74. Catch, including released fish: Blue Marlin 16; Striped Marlin 89; Sailfish 47; Dorado 29; Yellowfin Tuna 231; Pargo 25; Wahoo 4; Sierra 5. Water Temperature 79-85. Air Temperature 93-67. Seas calm in the a.m. with slight seas developing in the p.m.

Overall, the East Cape billfish bite remained consistent. The Yellowfin Tuna bite is still pretty nice right now as well. The Dorado bite remained slow.

Last week, the East Cape sportfishing area saw very little wind aside from some nice breezes in the afternoons. The air temperature saw a range of 67-93 degrees. Our water temp range was 79-85, so the cooling trend continues as expected.

As far as billfish are concerned, Striped Marlin led the way with anglers reporting some nice action to the north off Los Relices, off La Ribera, and Cabo Pulmo.

The Yellowfin Tuna bite is still chugging along. Anglers reported some nice action to the north off Punta Pescadero, straight off Los Barriles, as well as to the south off La Ribera, Punta Arena, Cabo Pulmo, and Los Frailes.

The Dorado bite is virtually nonexistent at East Cape, with an overall catch rate this past week of about 5 percent.
