CALM WINTER FISHING CONDITIONS FOR LOCAL BEACH ANGLERS
Feb. 10, 2007, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico, Baja On The Fly, Gary Graham:
The East Cape vacation area of Mexico had a week with more better days than bad. This week provided some of the best winter fishing conditions so far in 2007 for this area of Baja.
East Cape fishing area water temperature were 65 to 70 degrees, air temperature 54 to 79 degrees, and conditions sunny.
Chances are the dreaded winter north wind will soon return and this fishing stories will be the old, “You should have been here last week”.
Molly Semenik, a fishing guide on the Yellowstone River from Livingston, Montana, hit the beach here early at midweek. East Cape fishing weather was calm and offered perfect beach fishing conditions.
Rat roosterfish showed up for the beach party determined to snatch every fly that came close and of course, no Baja beach party would be complete without a ladyfish or two.
Molly had more "firsts" than on a high school prom night! All in all, she enjoyed a memorable Baja fishing day.
In offshore fishing at East Cape this week, it was the same story.
We had good, if not great, winter dorado fishing action and there were even striped marlin bites in the mix for variety.
While there was some East Cape yellowfin tuna action reported below Las Frailes this week, there were not many takers for the long ride.
