ENSENADA SPORTFISHING BOAT BAD DOG LANDS
13 JIG STRIKE ALBACORE OFF BAJA COAST
June 5, 2004, Steve Ross, Bad Dog Fishing, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico:
Departed Marina Coral, Ensenada, at 0430 and heard an announcement on VHF Channel 72 by Mike Richardson, Ensenada Live Bait, that no one should come over, as he had no live bait at the moment, but would have it by 0730.
On board was myself, Gail and a Marina Coral friend Ski who owns Um Bwana a Marina Coral 26' Skipjack.
Several Ensenada boats waited for his seiner to arrive but we went offshore without any live bait. We arrived at the 450 spot about a half an hour after sunrise after listening to Sammy Susarrey on Tamara and Tom McInally on Wide Open broadcasting about their doubles and triples on albacore jig strikes. All the other Ensenada boats were at the 238 spot. The water was 65 degrees and blue.
We caught 13 albacore on jig strikes, one was a quadruple. Then when we were traveling back to the Marina we got a quadruple on bonito, immediately iced, provided us with excellent sashimi and flash grilled as well.
