MEXICAN ALBACORE LIMITS CAUGHT AT ENSENADA OFFSHORE FISHING SPOTS

June 12, 2004, Steve Ross, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:

Just Juan Lu and Steve Ross on board Bad Dog. Ensenada Live Bait had 6" sardines. The Ensenada spots that were hot on Friday (near the 450 spot) were empty the next day. We worked our way down to the "Lower 500" where several San Diego Sportfishing Fleet boats were working with other San Diego private boaters.

Ensenada water was blue and 63-64 degrees with a 2-3' swell and 10 knots of wind.

Juan Lu and I boated "Mexican Limits" of albacore for the two of us by 0900. Most boats caught limits of fish as it was very good fishing for albacore. We found four kelp paddies and no one was home. We trolled from the lower 500 while we were returning to the Marina Coral, Ensenada, while we were cleaning fish with no jig strikes to within 8 miles of Isla Todos Santos Sur.

A friend of mine, Ski, on his 26' Skipjack "Um Bwana" split off the path and caught 7 pound barracuda outside off La Bufadora, Ensenada, at around 1800. He caught them trolling a Rapala. He and his two guests also caught Mexican Limits of albacore at the same Lower 500.
