LOTS OF SURFACE BARRACUDA UNDER BIRDS
FOR BOAT FISHING OUT OF LA JOLLA CAMP
June 21, 2004, Mark Blucker, La Jolla Camp, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico:
I fished 7/18 and 7/20 in the bay with Kim Giberson of Irvine.
On Fri., the Ensenada 'cudas came up at the point and they anything in the water. We were surrounded at one point with birds and breaking fish for a half a mile in all directions.
Ensenada bass fishing was a steady pick, but not great. Sardine pattern plastics or Ivan's iron jigs caught the most fish. NO 'tails for anyone.
Sun the same but only 1 'cuda. Just when you thought you were tired of catching 'cudas, they go away by themselves and you wish they were back.
I bolted a 2x6 to the gunnel of the Gregor and put a 2 hp on there. We call it the side-saddle mount. There's no room on the transom with the beach wheels. We found that you have to sit on that side to keep the prop in but it trolls along just fine!
