SAN DIEGO BOAT SEADAWG FISHES FOR DORADO OFF BAJA COAST
Sept. 9, 2004, Harry Thompson, Ensenada, Baja, Mexico Area Fishing For Dorado on the SeaDawg out of San Diego, California:
Launched from San Diego, boat name is SeaDawg. Water temp was 71-72 all over and the ocean in the Ensenada offshore fishing area was flat and glassy.
My buddy from Australia only had today left to fish. He (Bruce) and my son Joe and I headed out about 6 am this morning for the 302. About 8 miles shy of the numbers we ran across a paddy. We dropped bait on it for nothing, drifted about 5 minutes, and I started a slow retrieve when I got picked up by a small Yellowtail. Got him put back and began slow trolling dines around the paddy and Bruce and Joe both hooked up on the Dorado. Both got them right to the boat, but Bruce's spit the hook about 1/2 second from gaff. We got Joe's in the boat.
Saw some fish crashing bait not far off the paddy and ran over 200 yards for a couple of peanut YFT that will be served seared tonight for the game
I marked the paddies and off we went to the 302. Fished that area for awhile for nada and then decided to head in for the Rockpile/Islands area. I punched in the numbers for the paddy first and found it within 3/10th miles of the spot we marked. Dropped bait again and had another double on Dorado. This time both fish came to gaff. My crew handed me a bait stick about then and ordered me to give it a go, so I did. Got picked up immediately for a nice bull Dorado of the 15-20 pound variety. Made my day.
