ENSENADA FISHING REPORTS FOR VONNY'S FLEET MEXICAN PANGAS
April 9, 2005, Ivan Villarino, Vonny's Fleet, Punta Banda, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:
On Monday, Lester Ellet and Joe Ramirez went out fishing at Punta Banda with Capt. Beto on the Vonny I. We had a late fishing start because of the wind in the Ensenada area. Finally at 7:15 a.m. they went out. They caught some mixed bottom fish but the fishing was kind of slow.
On Tuesday, Ensenada had good fishing weather, so they took off early at 6 a.m. at 8 a.m. the phone rang. It was Capt. Beto calling from the fishing boat at Punta Banda, and he said they were very happy. They caught a "mero" 40 pounds. Mero means black sea bass. Everybody was happy. This was fishing with Joe Ramirez and Lester Ellet from Downey, Calif., who also caught limits of rockcods, lingcods, and bonitas. The black seabass was caught with the locally-made aluminum surface jig.
On Wednesday, the fishing at Ensenada was mostly bottom fishing, for rockcods a few lingcod, etc.
On Thursday: Jay Johnson went fishing with Capt. Beto and Capt. Cruz took out a charter, Mr. Cossman, and they caught a yellowtail with the help of Capt. Cruz who is Beto's father.
The rest of the week has been very windy and rough in our Ensenada sportfishing area. The wind was about 15 m.p.h., with air temperatures of 63 degrees, 7-10 foot ocean swells, and a small craft advisory for hazardous seas through this evening. The water temperature in our Ensenada fishing area is 60 degrees.
