OCEANSIDE SENIOR ANGLERS GO ON BAJA ROCKCOD
FISHING TRIP ABOARD THE PACIFIC VOYAGER
Dec. 17, 2005, Lee Wood, Oceanside Senior Anglers, Baja Pacific North, Mexico:
A group of fifteen Oceanside Senior Anglers went on an overnight rock cod fishing trip, leaving Seaforth Landing on The Pacific Voyager. The boat left the dock just shortly past 10 p.m., and after taking on some bait went to La Jolla and caught some squid for the following days fishing.
The squid fishing was slow for a while, as a few anglers were on deck with their squid jig setups. Finally the squid came to the lights and around 3 a.m. they were able to scoop some squid for the group.
They then proceeded down the coast to the Finger Banks and the rock pile for a great day's fishing.
They caught 116 various Rock Cod with some very nice reds up to 5 pounds and 4 lingcod.
The largest ling was caught by Van Vandermeer and was weighed in at 11.6 pounds, this was the jackpot winner.
The Charter Master for this trip was Ron Casapulla leading the rest of the OSA group which included Ron Parker, Will Cozzens, Ron K. Gary Weed, Virg Hardin, Bill Shew, Jim Rost, Doc Summers, Pat Cassidy, Armond Martineau, Ray Kavandi, Bob Perry, Ali Aslinejad and the jackpot winner Van.
The skipper was boat owner Mark Oronoz, and his crew were his second Captain JP (Jeff) with Chef Jeff, and crew mate Brian. This trip had three angler who had never fished for rock cod before. All came home fat and happy after the great day's fishing and the great meals prepared by Chef Jeff.
