TOP DOG AND EL CAZADOR FISHING TRIPS
July 29, 2006, Joe Ludka, Two days of fishing on the Ensenada charter boats Top Dog and El Cazador:
Joe Ludka, from Long Beach, and his brother Rick, and friends Dave and John from Phoenix fished at Ensenada last week.
On Monday we fished with Capt. Jon Strickland on the Top Dog. We made the long trip out to the 238 reef. We caught a couple of yellowtail and a decent sized bull Dorado. We could see schools of Dodos but without live bait, they were very picky. Patches of kelp were small, few and far between.
On Tuesday, we fished out of Sergio’s Sportfishing Center on the boat El Cazador, with Captain Lalo at the wheel and Ricardo and Jose on the deck. Ricardo, is one of the best deckhands in Ensenada and a ton of fun.
We fished primarily within the bahia and around Isla Todos Santos and off University Point. We sacked a couple of Yellowtail, Calicos, Red Snapper, Bonito, Barracuda and a little shark. We were catching fish continuously throughout the day, using iron, Rapalas, and live bait. We took along some wasabi and Tabasco Sauce and ate some fine tasting Bonito and Barracuda sashimi on board. We had a great time and Sergio says “hola and come on down” to everyone. We also ran into Dan Hernandez and ate a fish taco together. The tacos outside the Ensenada fish market just can’t be beat, hence my nickname, Fish Taco Joe.
