FISHING ACTION TAKES OFF FOLLOWING FULL MOON PERIOD

Jan. 2, 2004, Ed Kunze, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico Fishing Report:

The blue water remains close, with Ixtapa Zihuatanejo fishing starting to approach outstanding. Early in the week, we were still affected by the full moon, but with the moon waning as the week closed out, the fishing really took off for boats out of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.

The yellowfin tuna are still scattered, with the dorado (mahi-mahi) only being caught occasionally while trolling for other species. The sailfish are giving the most action. Almost every Ixtapa Zihuatanejo fishing boat is raising between 8 and 10 a day, with 5 to 6 fish being hooked.

For sailfish, I anticipate this next two to three weeks as being the absolute best of the year at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.
