SAILFISH AND TUNA HEAD CHRISTMAS LINEUP FOR SPORTFISHING BOATS
Jan. 7, 2005, Craig Miller, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico Fishing Report:
Fishing was active off of Zihuatanejo over the Christmas holiday with numerous sailfish and 150-pound yellowfin tuna being caught off of super pangas and sport fishers. Craig and Yvonne Miller from Irvine, CA. fished with Captain Jaime Hernandez aboard his super panga "Arena" on December 29th. Yvonne caught her first sailfish, a 60-pound fighter that was landed about 10 miles outside of Zihuatanejo Harbor.
Yvonne also landed a 30-pound yellowfin tuna that provided dinner for us and our Chef at the Melia Azul. The water was beautiful and very flat, which afforded us the opportunity to view over 50 sea turtles, incredibly acrobatic porpoise, approximately 30 sailfish, and sea life ranging from crabs to sea snakes.
The water temperature was approximately 80 degrees, 10-15 miles out of Zihuatanejo Harbor. The first hookup with a sailfish we lost was approximately 5 miles out of the harbor.
Capt. Jaime Hernandez, 011-52-755-554-3956, jaimeahernandez2002@yahoo.com. He owns and operates his own super panga, Arena, an extremely well-maintained panga with covered seating and toilet!! $180 for full day. Bait and deckhand included.
