SAILFISH BITE TURNS OFF AS COOL CURRENTS ARRIVE
March 4, 2005, Stan Lushinsky, Ixtapa Sportfishing Charters, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico Fishing Report:
A cool water current arrived in the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo sportfishing area and caused a downturn in the red hot SAILFISH bite that has been present since the beginning of the year. Our captains are reporting seeing many SAILFISH but getting them to bite is another story.
Captain Adodofo on the Dos Hermanos 1 fishing at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo with Angler Tony Marshall had the best single day landing 4 SAILFISH and 1 SHARK.
Angler Mr Bateman also fishing with Captain Adolofo had a 2 sailfish day and first time visitor to I/Z Mr Gaspard landed his first Pacific SAILFISH with Captain Adolofo.
Angler Dave Okonski who arrived at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo via a cruise ship fishing with Captain Alex on the Grande Jefe landed two SAILFISH in one afternoon before departing for Acapulco.
Andy Ritz from Minnesota, also fishing out of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo aboard the Grande Jefe landed 2 SAILFISH in one day as did Wisconsin angler Mark Thomas and Mr Woitas. Mr Woitas group also fished aboard the Tarpon landing 1 SAILFISH with Captain Miguel.
Returning angler Jerry Lamendola fishing aboard the Vamonos 3 tied captain Adolofo for the single best day by landing 4 SAILFISH in one day. Captain Chiro also landed an estimated 400 lb Blue Marlin later in the week.
Angler Mr Lentsch fishing three days aboard the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo charter boat Marea Azul landed 5 SAILFISH, 8! YELLOWTAIL JACKS and a handful of small game. Returning Fly angler for the Silver Bow Fly Shop, Mr Larry Cowles fishing aboard the Secuestro landed 1 SAILFISH in one day offshore. Several other big Blue Marlin were reported last week. Cooler temperatures should bring in this year's run of Big Blue and Black Marlin and YELLOWFIN TUNA in the weeks ahead.
