FISHING SEES SOME SLOW DAYS DURING FULL MOON PERIOD

April 29, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico Fishing Report:

While fishing conditions continue to improve at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, the effect of the full moon last week made for some slow periods during the week.

Most of the fishing action occurred offshore as the full moon made for high tides and large swell activity at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.

French anglers, Mr. Bonhomme & friends, fishing aboard the "Dos Hermanos I" with Captain Adolfo and "Gran Jefe", with Captain Alex, landed 13 sailfish, lost 6 sails, 2 marlin strikes, 8 jacks, 1 big grouper, 1 Spanish mackerel, 6 needlefish and many bonitos.

Brad Christensen, MN, landed 5 yellowfin tuna and 4 bonito fishing with Captain Adolfo. Returning angler, Herb Houghton, New Jersey, also fishing with Captain Adolfo, landed 4 jacks. Herb also fished aboard the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo charter fishing boat "Vamonos III" with Captain Chiro, landing 2 sailfish. Michelle Howard's catch totaled 4 jacks, 1 roosterfish, 1 amberjack, 1 Spanish mackerel and 1 sailfish for 2 fishing days with Captain Adolfo.

The McKee party, fishing a total of 3 days at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo with the "Dos Hermanos I", "Dos Hermanos II", "Secuestro De Amor" and the "Leydy", landed 4 yellowfin tuna, 13 bonito, 3 Spanish mackerel, 1 jack, 6 big eye, 1 needlefish and 9 sailfish. Fishing aboard the "Vamonos III" with Captain Chiro, anglers Steve Wong of OR, landed 1 sailfish and Eric Whitely, UT, landed 2 sailfish.

Dale & Roxanne Darling, CA, landed a 250 lb. blue marlin, fishing with Ixtapa Zihuatanejo sportfishing Captain Jose Vargas son the "La Bamba". Abel Cortez also reported an additional 4 marlin being taken but lacked the full details.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo climate had 67 degree nights to 90 daytime highs, with partly cloudy days. Sea conditions at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo had gentle breezes and moderate swell conditions, with water temperatures from 79 degrees inshore to 82 offshore. The bait supply remained good at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.
