ANNUAL BILLFISH TOURNAMENT RESULTS

May 5-11, 2005, Stan Lushinsky, Ixtapa Sportfishing Charters, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico Fishing Report:

The annual Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Billfish Tournament was held last week. Ground contact Abel Cortez reports in the three days of fishing approximately 150 SAILFISH over the minimum weight of 60 lbs by the 113 boats participating.

The largest SAILFISH taking first place scaled in at 92 lbs. The largest BLUE MARLIN weighed in at 249 lbs.

Very few DORADO were reported, with the first place fish weighing in at 30 lbs.

Both the inshore and offshore fishing action at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo continues to improve after the turn of the moon. Historically the summer months have been our best months for very good ROOSTERFISH action as well as consistent SAILFSH and school TUNA action offshore. Additionally, some of the biggest MARLIN of the entire year are taken from early May through early June.

Andy Martisak of Klamath Falls OR fishing aboard the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo charter fishing boat Dos Hermanos 1 with Capt. Adolofo reported 10 TUNA 5 MACKEREL, 15 BONITO, 4 NEEDLEFISH and 1 JACK in two days inshore fishing.

Mr. Martisak also landed 2 SAILFISH in 1 day of fishing aboard the Vamonos 3 with Capt. Chiro Barragan. Returning angler and family, Don Orem of Sumterville, Fl also fishing with Capt. Adolofo landed 3 SAILFISH, 1 ROOSTERFISH, 1 JACK, 1 NEEDLEFISH and 5 BONITOS in 2 days of fishing.

Capt. Chiro of the Vamonos 3 also reported angler Jeff Kirt of New York City lost 2 SAILFISH and Joseph Doster of Lititz, PA lost 1 SAILFISH and landed 1 TUNA.

Chris Daughters of Eugene, OR reported 1 SAILFISH landed with Capt. Chiro. The only MARLIN action was reported by the Capt. Vito Lara of the Suerte Ruby. One BLUE MARLIN was landed weighing in at 440 lbs.

Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo weather had beautiful days with temps in the high 80’s, calm seas, and a good supply of bait.
