IXTAPA ZIHUATANEJO: GOOD YELLOWFIN TUNA ACTION 45 MILES OUT
June 1, 2006, Scott Gross, Yellowfin Tuna Catch at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico:
I caught 22 nice 25 to 35 pound yellowfin tuna caught last week, May 21-26th, while fishing 1 day off Zihuatanejo on the boat Burbuja with Capt. Amado.
The Burbuja is a 27 foot custom super panga with a 100 h.p., 4-stroke engine.
Water temperatures were 82-84 degrees and water color was a nice cobalt to aqua blue. I caught 22 yellowfin and Carl Swanson also of Boston also caught 5 yellowfin tuna.
Fishing on May 21st offshore, we caught 17 yellowfin 45 miles out using small feathers and purple cedar plugs on mostly 30 pound line, Shimano and Penn standup gear.
Two more days of fishing offshore produced nothing, only to find the tuna 1 mile off of Ixtapa with Capt. Luis Maciel on the Gringo Loco, for 5 more yellowfin for a total of 22 yellowfin and 5 sailfish caught on dead goggle eyes trolled. All fish were caught off of Zihuatanejo.
