IXTAPA ZIHUATANEJO: FEW ANGLERS IN THE AREA
June 16, 2006, Larry Edwards, few anglers in Ixtapa fishing area but inshore fishing good:
Abel Cortez, owner of the Ixtapa charter fishing boat "Gran Jefe", reported the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo fishing area very slow on anglers, but with good inshore fishing. Offshore action was slow.
The charter panga "Dos Hermanos I", reported for 5 Ixtapa fishing days, both inshore and offshore, reflecting 2 sailfish, 12 yellowfin tuna, 6 sharks, 2 dorado, 9 sierra, 16 jacks and 12 roosterfish.
"La Bamba", reporting for 2 Ixtapa fishing days reflected 15 bonita.
The "Bloody Hook", reporting for 3 Ixtapa fishing days, had 1 sailfish, 5 bonita, 14 grouper, 1 jack and 3 needlefish.
Sea conditions at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo were a little windy this week with a fair amount of swell and wind chop, making the inshore fishing difficult. Water temperatures are stable at 85-86 degrees both inshore and offshore.
Ixtapa Zihuatanejo fishing area weather had 71 degree nights and 88 degree daytime highs, humid, cloudy and some afternoon rains.
Inshore action produced fish both to the north and south of Zihuatanejo.
Billfish were best hooked on rigged baits. Inshore was good with the pencil poppers and live bait. Offshore fishing really has no defined area off Ixtapa at this time.
