DORADO ACTION PICKS UP FOR LOCAL FISHING BOATS
June 26, 2004, Jonathan Roldan, Tail Hunter International, La Paz, Mexico fishing:
I guess it's official. Dorado Disneyland is open in La Paz! I think there's been more dorado (also mahi-mahi or dolphinfish) caught in the last week or so than the rest of the year combined!
As La Paz waters warm, more dorado seem to be showing up although the concentrations are scattered in a very wide range from 10 miles east of Espiritu Santo then down through the channel towards Las Cruces west of Cerralvo. It then picks up outside at the 88 spot and the southern buoys nearby; Punta Perico and down to Las Animas.
La Paz fishing can go from drudgery to panic as dorado just blast in out've nowhere! I was in 6 feet of water one day fishing pargo with clients when a school of about 30 dorado showed up and we get bent!
Tuna have teased us once again. They are here one day and gone the next. That flurry we had last week seems to have moved outside although each day a handful of tuna seem to be caught on both the Las Arenas and La Paz side.
Roosters are still around and willing. We are seeing striped marlin and blue marlin all over with quite few hookups but not many landed.
