FISHING TRIP TO LAS ARENAS SIDE FINDS DORADO EVERYWHERE
Oct. 17, 2004, Larry Powers, Las Arenas, La Paz, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:
Larry Powers and Carlos Touche of Tucson and Santa Barbara respectively fished October 8 and 9 out of Baja de los Muertos(la Paz area) with Gerardo Hernandez's Tortuga Sportfishing of La Paz. Sardine bait is available in almost endless quantities and large squid are easily caught if you choose to use parts for trolling.
Dorado can be taken from most anywhere at about one half mile off shore north and south of Muertos. You can go for quality or quantity. We prefer the smaller dorado (also mahi-mahi or dolphinfish) because we feel they are better eating and with spinning gear and light test line you can have a ball We got into one school of larger fish, thirty pounds, more or less, but most fish caught were on the smallish side. We both caught limits. And if you like calimari---wow---theres lots!
Las Arenas water temperatures and early mornings are starting to cool. They are definitely turning down the blast furnace,
We are both in our mid seventies and beyond wanting to catch trophy's. We have fished the Sea of Cortez both from the Mainland and Baja for over sixty years and Baja still maintains a good bit of that Old Mexico hospitality and charm.
Gerardo Hernandez's La Paz fishing operation is outstanding. His personal attention to all matters concerning his business and his client's comforts are at 110%. He is professional but friendly and. I might add, sends you out with a fine lunch and plenty of beverages of you're choice. Tortuga Sportfishing makes you're trip a pleasant and memorable one.

Per usual, the fascilities as furnished by Gerardo where great. La Paz, Mexico, fishing was excellent and the weather couldn't have been better. I would easily recommend Gerardo's services and arrangements.
