DORADO STILL STICKING AROUND FOR FISHING BOATS AT ISLA ESPIRITU SANTO
Nov. 28, 2004, Jonathan Roldan Tailhunter International, La Paz, Mexico Fishing Report:
I think La Paz has settled into our normal weather pattern for this time of year finally with a few days wind and a few days of bright clear sunny weather.
Most of our fishing has been on the La Paz side with that spot of dorado still sticking around the southeast end of Espiritu Santo Island.
La Paz fish continue to be nice-sized 10-40 pound dorado (also mahi-mahi or dolphinfish). Limits are not unusual using sardines or slow trolled slabs of dead bonito. Larger fish are being taken by using the whole small bonito (one pounders) trolled behind the boats. The surprise is that we've got other warm-water species still around La Paz as well. One of our clients fought a big sailfish for 3 hours on 20 pound test before getting it to the boat, and we also got a surprise yellowfin tuna as well out've the bonito schools that are in the same La Paz area.
At Las Arenas, it's hard to judge because we didn't have many boats out that way, but there's still dorado to the south towards Pescadero as well as by the lighthouse. Additionally, sierra and cabrilla have been biting with the occasional wahoo.
Back by popular demand, the La Paz Cabin Fever Classic is back! We've had a blast every year and it's one of our most popular trips of the year and I personally host it. We never know what we are going to catch. But every year, we pull all kinds of weird things out of the water. Two years ago, the La Paz dorado went nuts. Last year, we had an early showing of roosterfish plus about 12 other species from cabrilla to sierra! This is a La Paz fishing trip for the angler who has been stuck in their "cabin" for too long and just needs to get out and soak up a little sun, some beer, and get a line wet. It's great fun. A number of folks have already sent in their deposits! Every night we go out on the town at a different La Paz restaurant and have a great time!
This years' date is April 14th - 18th of 2005 and we'll be fishing 3 days at Las Arenas. Accommodations will be at Los Arcos Hotel in La Paz. Price of $650 per person double occupancy included hotel, boats, skipper, tackle, ice, fish cleaning, fish freezing, breakfast and lunches on fishing days, ground transfers from the La Paz airport, beach shuttles, all taxes. If you send in your deposit before Dec. 31st, take off $50. Write me for more details. Spots will fill up quickly!
