PANGA FISHING FOR WAHOO OUT OF BAHIA DE LA VENTANA
June 12, 2005, Brad Meister, La Ribera, East Cape, Mexico Fishing Report:
We launched off the beach 5 days ago and caught two 30-pound tuna 10 miles off Cabo Pulmo, then picked up a pargo off the rocks and came in. It was the one day a few tuna were caught.
Two days later, I am my brother-in-law Kevin Ferguson of Beaverton, Ore., and I saw 3 marlin. The first hit a lure and didn't stick. The next one took a mullet I tossed to him, but didn't stick, and the third one sounded.
The wahoo 2 days ago with Dos, out of La Ventana, were caught "0 wahoo 30," meaning early off the island, on Marauders. We were the only boat I saw catch wahoo and there were at least 50 boats in sight.
The wahoo were a double hookup. Keven took the first one, a 30 pounder, and as I cleared the line that was out a 50 pounder hit. A dodo came later in a bunch of bait with jack crevalle all over the surface. We trolled fast to keep the toros off the lines and get the hoo. It was great.
