SIERRA MACKEREL SHOW UP FOR LOCAL SPORTFISHING BOATS
Dec. 24, 2005, Jonathan Roldan, Tailhunter International, La Paz, Mexico Sportfishing Report:
The La Paz fishing area had a surprising run of fish this week. Lots of sierra showed up, with fish up to as large as 12 pounds, but most a sizable 3 to 8 pounds and lots of fun, not to mention prime fillet for ceviche.
Anglers in both the Las Arenas and La Paz fishing areas found the fish. Even more surprising was that dorado showed up again as waters warmed slightly. Maybe the fish never left because it's been one of the longest dorado seasons I can remember. Perhaps the water warmed and the fish just decided to eat. However, the Las Arenas buoys turned on and the channel between Isla Cerralvo and Isla Espiritu Santo also produced some nice grades of winter mahi.
