SOME TUNA CAUGHT SOUTH OF ENSENADA DE LOS MUERTOS

Jan. 8, 2006, Jonathan Roldan, Tailhunter International, La Paz, Mexico Sportfishing Report:

Surprisingly for January, La Paz sportfishing waters are a tad warmer than normal around La Paz Bay, the islands, and out into the Sea of Cortez around Las Arenas and extending down toward the East Cape.

Maybe that's why we are still hitting some yellowfin tuna, dorado and marlin that usually have no business in our neck of the woods this time of year, but no one is complaining.

We're not into them like last week, but perhaps 5 to 8 miles southeast of Ensenada de los Muertos, either around the buoys for dorado, or finding the porpoise schools for tuna, we're still hitting the occasional warm water species.

Inshore, we're having a blast on snapper and smaller pargo as well as a great bite of sierra up to 12 pounds.
