LA PAZ: GOOD FISHING AT EL SARGENTO
June 16, 2006, Eugene Bernosky, hot multi-species fishing at El Sargento, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Fishing over the last week in El Sargento south of La Paz was hot for Dorado to 40 pounds, Jacks to 40 pounds, Barred Pargo to 15 pounds, Needlefish to 12 pounds and the occasional Cabrilla to 20 pounds, mostly caught on sardines. Bait was easy to acquire along beaches near La Ventana.
Over 8 days, we fished Isla Cerralvo, Punta Arena and the area from El Sargento to Los Cruces. The most productive fishing area was between Punta Gorda and El Sargento, though it required fishing around and between many illegal commercial fishing lines with 200 hooks each.
The Dorado bite was good most days at El Sargento. Our best day produced 11 Dorado over a two hour period, all within 200 yards of the beach. Overall, it was one of our best fishing trips ever to El Sargento.
We did not check the water temperature but it was over 80 degrees. The weather at El Sargento was dead calm every morning with East breezes picking up to 10 knots some days by 11 a.m.
