LAS ARENAS PANGAS ON TUNA AND DORADO

Sept. 10, 2006, Gerardo Hernandez, Tortuga Sportfishing, Las Arenas, La Paz, Mexico.

This is the Tortuga report for fishing on the Las Arenas side. We had excellent weather the last few days, with air temperatures at about 90 degrees at Punta Arena de la Ventana, and also in our southern fishing waters at Boca del Alamo and San Isidro. In all these areas we are now catching yellowfin tuna and dorado. Boats with anglers that want tuna are finding them just south of Punta Pescadero, and these tuna are of good size, about 20 to 30 pounds.

For dorado of good size, we are fishing north of Isla Cerralvo, around El Sargento, and off Las Cruces, for dorado of 30 to 45 pounds.

After our visit from storm John, the fishing has gotten better because of the trees and debris washed into the water. The fishing is now better in all of our main areas.

We have no problems with finding enough bait. The sea at La Paz is completely calm in our areas, but abundant fish at Isla Cerralvo and Ensenada de los Muertos.
