YELLOWFIN TUNA FISHING BETWEEN WINDS AT ISLA CERRALVO
Feb. 3, 2007, Tortuga Sportfishing, Gerardo Hernandez, Las Arenas side, La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
We had a good beginning to the fishing week for our pangas on the Las Arenas side of La Paz.
We caught many different types of fish, such as yellowfin tuna, sierra, pargo lisa, and pargo mulato.
We also saw the beginning of the yellowtail fishing season this week.
However, by the weekend, the north wind was strong again and did not permit our fishermen to go outside again.
Instead, we fished closer to shore in the area around Punta Perico for sierras and the various pargos.
On days this week, we continued to catch the Humboldt giant squid in all the fishing areas around Ensenada de los Muertos and Punta Arena.
We are hoping that the wind will calm down in the coming days and allow us to go out to catch sardina baits.
La Paz fishing weather continues to be cool, with low air temperatures in the 60s.
This week we had fishing with Tortuga Sportfishing Capt. Enrique Sanchez of Aerocalifornia and his group of friends.
They look advantage of good weather conditions at La Paz at the beginning of the week and they were able to catch a very good number of yellowfin tuna on the north side of Isla Cerralvo.
