MEXICAN COMMERCIAL FISHING BOAT CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL DORADO ABOARD
June 29, 2004, Marco Ehrenberg, Pisces Fleet, Loreto, Mexico Longline Fishing Boat Apprehension:
Amigos, Another modified shrimper gone/longliner caught redhanded off Loreto...the boats home port is Guaymas" Salado I " was caught with almost 3000 pounds of dorado!!! reported the pesca authority... The owner is a company Gespa SA DE CV and the permit they had was intended for SQUID? They had four pangas operating in tandem 3 of which escaped ... the marines aproached the boat with the assistance of local sportfishing and tourist operators...in this case two marines and the pesca guy where there to do the boarding and detention of this vessel creating great havoc within the Loreto community which has its only resource based on the sportfishing industry in its majority.
The story recently reported by Tracy has a interesting catch...while the fisheries in the county decline and the shark is used to gain attention modified shrimpers are being deployed all over the country with permits for"Yellow fin tuna with lures" (michoacano II) and squid permit for (salado I) so when you ask how many permits for longlining for shark the numbers dont change but new and innovative permits do increasing daily... the longline fishery in Mexico is more dangerous than the orintal fleet years before...here the question would be ...once the product is returned to Nayarit, Guaymas, Michoacan Mazatlan...how does all this illegal catch become legal? The pesca authorities are colludded in this dirty mess of corruption and dirt...the local goverments that dont care for the tourist industry and the federal authority definetaly have something fishy in all this deal.
