July 6, 2004, Jose Lopez, Loreto, Mexico Super Hot Dorado Fishing.
We drove down as a family my dad Jose, mother Amada, brothers Gabriel and David, and my wife Patty and my son Jonathan, also a buddy Steve Tarazon. We fished on our own Klamath.
We got to East Cape last Monday the 28th and stayed at Martin Verdugo’s. We didnt do so well there and only got a barred pargo( my brother Gabriel) and missed on the Dorado.
Granted we were only using artificials and from the buzz around town, live bait was the ticket.
We then hit up Loreto, staying at the Hacienda Suites right as you get into town. Great place for the wife and kids to stay while we fished.
Our first day (maybe the 30th???) we didnt find any Dorado but we did find some of the biggest skipjack we've ever cought. Also I snagged another pargo that day.
The second day there was one I'll never forget. We had a full tank of what the locals called sardine bait in two throws of the net and off we went. We fished about 7 miles on a 30 degree heading from the isla Coronado not at a patty but on a scum line. First and last stop with limits for 5 guys. We had them crashing the bait, schooling around the boat. So many dorado it was something out of a TV show.
The third day was even closer maybe 5 miles from the island and there was already about 10 boats there. We had first and last stop, limits by 9.30. Loreto is on fire!
I even brought out the 12lbs test on a spinner and landed a decent fish. We then relaxed inside bahia concepcion for the remainder of the trip and just drove in last night to a surprisingly short 30 min. border wait.
