2004 FISHIN' FOR THE MISSION LORETO FISHING TOURNAMENT RESULTS
July 18, 2004, Kristian Pallesen, Loreto, Mexico Fishing for the Mission Tournament:
The “Fishin for the Mission” tournament was held this week down here in Loreto. We had 49 boats paid entries, which raised $6,250 for the Loreto Mission and this year $1,000 was given to the “Ranchero” school for children.
Jim Duggin’s crew did a great job in pulling this together for all involved, including putting on a large give away raffle for the skippers, a fantastic dinner and raffle for the participants right in the square of the mission.
The fishing was hampered the first day by the tropical storm off the lower end of Baja, but the ended on some good weather Saturday.
The “two limit” count per team, saw the “Dom Emilie” come out on top with 56lbs total. Tobbie Valadez from Upland, CA, said his team caught no fish the first day down south, but came back on the last day to catch 38lb and 18lb fish north of Coranado Island. Second place went to the “Karen Ann” at 55lbs 2oz, and then “Baja Breeze” with 55 lbs 1oz totals.
The dorado are out there, but the has been no patties to fish. Mackerel has been the working the best for larger fish, but sardines and squid are also good back-ups these days.
