A 54.4-POUND DORADO CAUGHT IN SCATTERED LORETO BITE

July 25, 2004, Arturo Susarrey, Arturo's Sportfishing, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

Weather, has been very variable, but bad weather prevailed especially last Wednesday and Thursday with some local storms.

Loreto fishing on Friday and Saturday weather got better, with the weather at 95 degrees.

Dorado fishing is still difficult in our Loreto fishing area. We have found some schools but it hasn't been easy to make them bite not even with mackerel, sardine or squid, most of our catches has been on single dorado, or in pairs, around the North side of Coronado Island, Bajo del Medio, 20 miles. Most of the time there weren't any weed paddies on spots.

Average Dorado's per boat 2 pieces, weight average 18 pounds and our biggest of the week at Loreto, 54.4 pounds.

Sail Fish and Striped Marlin, are located in same areas as Dorado, fisherman continue catching and releasing most of them.

Yellowtail, at Bajo Punta Almeja the best catch was 8 pieces with an average weight of 18 pounds.

Cabrilla, also on Bajo Punta Almeja the catch got better around 4 pieces per boat with a size of 12 pounds.

BAIT: Available on Coronado Island (by catching your own ) or buy it early morning at the marina, at a price of 10 pieces for $ 15.00 U.S. and 20 pieces for $ 25.00 U.S.
