THREE-DAY FISHING TRIP YIELDS MOSTLY SMALL PEANUT-SIZED DORADO

July 25, 2004, Larry Parker, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

Reporting on our recent (2nd) Loreto fishing trip this past weekend (July 15th through 19th).

I have to report tough fishing for dorado all 3 fishing days, with only a few decent sized fish, and many baby Dorado (5 to 8 lbs.) The only ones showing in any numbers....fun on the Trout pole, though (and easier to release unharmed.)

Loreto sportfishing area sailfish were plentious adjacent to Punta Lobos, in-between Isla Carmen and Isla Coronado, where our party of 3 adults and 4 boys (ages 9, 10, 14, and 14) caught and released 5.

My grandson, Zachary Beissel (age 10), caught his first Sailfish on a very rough Loreto fishing day 1 mile north of Punta Lobos, and took his first blue marlin (125 lbs.) with help from granddad the next day in the same area with 30 lb. P-line on a Penn 555, using a newly wrapped Lamiglass 7 foot pole.

Our Loreto fishing guides, headed by Jose "Chema" Murillo, said that the Commercial fishing boat caught with its hold full of "mature" Dorado 2 weeks ago has temporarily slowed the sport fishing of Dorado in Loreto, until the next migrations of bigger fish move in from the South.
