DRIVE-DOWN FAMILY FISHING TRIP TO LORETO SHORES
Aug. 3, 2004, Sal Pilato, Loreto, Mexico Fishing:
My wife and son Nick and his girlfriend Margaret drove down to Loreto last week with me. It was the girls' first time to go. They had a great time. We stayed at Loreto Shores. We took the girls out twice and we did not even catch one dorado. But Nick and I did go out three more times, and we got our limits.
We fished out at Carmen Island at the tip, Punta Baja, about 10 to 20 miles out. We used live bait. The panga was a super panga. The owner and captain was Roberto Ramon Quintana. He is a teacher in Loreto and for extra money he does the fishing in the summer months. Real good friend. We've used him every year for four years.
The bait was okay mackerel, but Friday there was no bait and we had to make our own. In about half an hour we had 20 mackerel in our tanks, but it was hard to get them. Not biting good.
