WINDY SEAS YIELD SOME YELLOWTAIL AT CORONADO ISLAND
Dec. 5, 2004, Arturo Susarrey, Arturo's Sportfishing, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:
Loreto has been very windy during the week, but even with the weather conditions we were able to do some fishing around Coronado Island. The water temperature around Loreto was 57 to 68 F.
Some yellowtail were located around Coronado Island with an average weight of 12 to 18 pounds. We also have a report from Loreto commercial fishermen located in the San Nicolas area, right where we set up our winter fishing camp. Arturo's Sport Fishing crew is moving up to San Nicolas to begin the season on that area.
There were some sea bass captured by part of our Loreto crew last Thursday on the north side, close to Coronado Island. They where not able to go looking for other types of fish, because of the heavy waves caused by the wind.
Roosterfish are located in same spot as last week, at San Bruno north of Loreto, 15 miles more or less. Also, in San Juanico Bay, it is good for roosterfish and sierra mackerel. The roosters weigh 25 to 40, and sierra 3 to 7 pounds. This is a good place to practice for fly fishing guides because in this place the bottom is only sand.
Mackerel and big eye baits are available on Coronado Island or from the marina by catching your own, or buy it early mornings at the Loreto marina, at a price of 10 pieces for $15 U.S. and 20 pieces for $25 U.S.
