PUNTA PULPITO YELLOWTAIL AVERAGING ABOUT 20 POUNDS

Jan. 20, 2005, Arturo Susarrey, Arturo's Sportfishing, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

The Loreto sportfishing weather has been very nice since last Tuesday, kind of cloudy and calm, and anglers are enjoying the fishing. Not all the years are the same, but usually in February we have around 20 good days and the rest of them are windy. February is an excellent time for yellowtail in the Punta Pulpito area.

Yellowtail are still located at same spots as before, by Punta Pulpito, 35 miles north of Loreto. Yesterday Talpa, Jesus and Ramon, Arturo's Fishing guides caught 18 yellowtail at San Ildefonso reef, between Islas Carmen and Coronado. This place is more or less 11 miles east from Loreto, between Piedra Blanca and Candeleros on Coronado Island.

The yellowtail at Punta Pulpito average 20 pounds in weight, and the biggest are about 30 pounds. At San Ildefonso, the average weight is also 20 pounds, and the biggest 30 pounds. At Isla Coronado, the average is 16 pounds and the biggest 22 pounds.

We would like to remind all the fisherman that our adventure trips to San Nicolas Camp are getting closer every day.

Mackerel and bigeye bait is available at Coronado Island or at the marina by catching your own, or buy it early morning at the marina, at the price of 10 pieces for $15 U.S., or 20 pieces for $25 U.S. Also sardinas are available on the harbor early in the morning.
