PUNTA PULPITO SHOWS SURFACE ACTION FOR YELLOWTAIL CAUGHT ON JIGS

Jan. 29, 2005, Arturo Susarrey, Arturo's Sportfishing, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

Loreto fishing weather has been cloudy, with rain the first day of the week, but the following days had very good weather and sunny skies, except that we had a bit of wind yesterday afternoon.

Anyway, Loreto weather is getting better every day, and is having temperatures of 57 to 70 degrees. Water temperatures are 60 to 62 degrees.

Fishing for Loreto yellowtail continues to be located in the Punta Pulpito area, and most of the yellowtail are biting on the surface, with some yellowtail on the bottom. About 80 percent of the catches are being made with cast jigs while the yellowtail are feeding on sardinas on the surface. Sometimes the yellowtail don't want to bite because they are too full of sardina, and we need to work a little longer to capture them.

For Loreto yellowtail fishing right now, we recommend 6XJr jigs in color such as scrambled egg, blue-white, and yellow-green, and also the Yozuri brand squid to troll in colors pink, red, and black. These were the champions at Loreto last year.

Fishing at Loreto for cabrilla is at the same spots as the yellowtail.

Mackerel bait is on the south side of Coronado Island, and sardina bait for sale at the marina early in the morning.
