MOSTLY WINDY FISHING CONDITIONS WITH A FEW CALM DAYS

Feb. 9, 2005, Pam Bolles, Baja Big Fish Company, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

Loreto has had cold air for the most part during the past two weeks. Highs getting up to the low to mid 70's, if we're lucky. Lows have been down into the low 40's and maybe high 30's.

Typically in February the north winds are an every day part of life in the Loreto vacation area, but we've had some persistent winds from the south which created a cancellation effect. The cancellation effect means little or no wind. Currently there is a lot of cloud cover and winds are light from the north. Even though many fishing days are windy this time of year, once we set into a steady norte pattern we'll know that there's still a few hours in the morning available to fish. And our windy periods will eventually be interrupted by a period of calm and you'll be able to get a full day in.

There is yellowtail fishing off La Cholla, the westernmost point on Isla Carmen, and up at Pulpito, pretty much our northern limit. Last week was rough going so we fished at La Cholla with good results. This week the seas have been calmer but we are starting to feel some northerly wind effects.

Loreto Water Surface Temperature Range: 72-62 degrees.
