LONG RUNS TO PUNTA PULPITO FOR A COUPLE OF YELLOWTAIL

Feb. 24, 2005, Tom Bird, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

Perhaps its the moon, but Loreto fishing's been a bit tough this week.

Yellowtail, cabrilla, pinto bass and sierra mackerel have been the area's fishing targets.

Most Loreto vacation area anglers have been catching bait to the northeast of Coronado island then running almost 40 miles to Punta Pulpito for 1-2 yellowtail per boat. Cabrillas have been picked up along with the yellowtail.

Loreto resident David Hill, launching at 8 a.m., and captaining his 19-foot boat "Nietas" to the fishing reefs just 8 miles north of Loreto, 2 miles north of Isla Coronado, was back at the dock by noon with two yellowtail that gave in to a scrambled egg colored Salas 6x Jr.

It feels like spring is already here in Loreto, as the sun has been shining, the sea water temperature is about 69 degrees, and sargassum weed lines have been visible in many locations.
