FISHING AT SAN BRUNO WITH CAPT. ALVARO MURILLO
March 19, 3005, Don Bear, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:
My neighbor in Loreto, Charlie Licha, and I fished with Alvaro Murillo on Sunday. We went fishing at San Bruno, but around 10:30, a fast moving fog bank forced us to flee to Isla Coronado, the east side of which was already shrouded in fog by the time we reached there.
Fishing, at San Bruno we caught 1 yellowtail, about 20 lbs., out of a total of 3 strikes, all on the surface and all on live mackerel. The mackerel brought zero strikes on the bottom. Charlie also caught around a dozen whitefish and 1 huachinango on a rock cod rigged with squid strips dropped to the bottom.
While fishing at Isla Coronado, Charlie caught a large, about 15 lbs., pargo colmiudo, which I think translates to dog-tooth snapper, trolling a live mackerel.
The Loreto fishing day was beautiful, with flat water and abundant sunshine. By 9:00 we had stripped down to our shorts.
On Monday, Loreto weather turned windy through Wednesday. The last 3 days have been flat calm. Daytime temperatures are in the low 80's.
Loreto sportfishing panguero, Adan Murillo, died suddenly of a heart attack on Wednesday. He had many gringo customers.
