GOOD YELLOWTAIL COUNTS AT SAN NICOLAS REMOTE FISH CAMP

March 27, 2005, Arturo Susarrey, Arturo's Sportfishing, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

Loreto vacation area fishing weather has been calm and sunny, but yesterday and today we have a lot of wind.

Yellowtail fishing around Loreto has been very successful for all of the fishermen. They have been catching a lot of yellowtail especially on the north side of Loreto, specifically at Pulpito, which is very close to our Winter Fishing Camp.

This week we ended the season at our San Nicolas Fishing Camp with the last two fishing groups, one led by Ed Miller, who stayed at the camp from Sunday through Wednesday the 23rd. The other group was led by Danny Martin and they fished from the 23rd through to today.

These two groups caught plenty of yellowtail and good sized cabrillas. The yellowtail weighed between 20 and 30 pounds, and the cabrilla 6 to 18 pounds.

Good yellowtail were also caught at San Bruno reef, more or less 15 miles north of Loreto, and some fishing boats caught 9 fish of about the same size as Pulpito.

The fishing season for sailfish and marlin is coming early. The first ones were caught in the area of La Choya during the week. A sailfish was caught by Jim Wright's group with Capt. Chico, and a marlin was caught by Laurette Cisneros and Capt. Roberto, both clients from California.

Cabrilla and red snapper were also caught in this fishing area.
