STRUCTURE FISHING YIELDS SOME YELLOWTAIL AT ISLA CORONADO
April 10, 2005, Pam Bolles, Baja Big Fish Company, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:
This week's Loreto fishing weather was much better than the past three weeks. Tuesday was the only windy day that prevented fishing. Today the wind from the north is back but Monday, Wednesday Thursday, Friday and Saturday were all very nice.
Fishing at Loreto is getting better with yellowtail coming from just off Isla Coronado for those captains who really know where the right structures are. Marlin and Sailfish are more common now and the first of the Dorado has come in. I didn't see the Dorado but I'm hearing stories that the fish, taken on trolled mackerel approximately 25 miles east of Isla Carmen, weighed between 15 and 25 pounds. It was probably more like 15. Pretty far to travel for one fish, they'll come in closer pretty soon.
Loreto yellowtail still have not spawned. I think they'll do so near the next full moon.
Inshore fishing at Loreto is good for Cabrilla and Pargo and other species such as giant wrasse, sierra, giant needlefish, etc. Roosterfish are starting to become more frequent again.
