FISHING BETWEEN ISLAS CORONADO AND CARMEN

April 16, 2005, Don Bear, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

On Tuesday my neighbor Kent Baker and I went fishing out of Loreto with Martin Davis on Kent's 21-foot Cabo 216. It was a beautiful day with absolutely flat water. We stayed in the fishing area between Loreto's Islas Coronado and Carmen (Alfonso, La Cholla, Puerto Balandra), catching 2 large yellowtail, 1 smallish cabrilla, and 1 medium-sized "Pargo Culon." We were using mackerel and jurelitos as bait. It was not a particularly active day, but the great weather conditions were partial compensation.

On Friday, the yellowtail bite picked up significantly at San Bruno. Pangueros Huero Cata Davis and Alvaro Murillo caught 2 and 8 yellowtail, respectively. Huero Cata's fishermen lost 5 yellowtail due to using too light line. Many of the strikes came on flylined baits.

Dorado continue to be the talk of the pangueros down at the Loreto marina. Allegedly, one panga came back with 8 dorado. But they are still about 40 miles out from town.
