REPORT FROM ARTURO'S SPORTFISHING

April 17, 2005, Arturo Susarrey, Arturo's Sportfishing, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

Loreto fishing weather has been calm and sunny during the week and little bit warmer than what we expect. This has been the first week without wind. Only one day turned cloudy, and it didn't affect the fishing.

Yellowtail fishing at Loreto has been slower than expected. Only a few anglers were able to catch them during the week. Yellowtail continue to hit on live bait, and there are other types of fish mixed in, such as seabass, red snapper, and triggerfish. Today, Antonio and Jesus reported better fishing at the south end of Isla Carmen, with yellowtail of 20 to 30 pounds. Maybe the yellowtail will start leaving the Loreto sportfishing area, because we have not had good yellowtail fishing in the past two weeks.

Dorado are very, very far away. Slowly the action is improving. A few were caught while fishing south of Isla Carmen, about 40 miles from Loreto.

Mackerel and bigeye bait are available to catch at Isla Coronado, or to buy at the Loreto marina, 10 pieces for $10. Sardinas are $10 for plenty.
