SUPER PANGA FISHING WITH ARTURO'S CAPT. RAMON BAEZA
June 27, 2005, Allen Barbour, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:
We originally targeted dorado for our fishing agenda and fished approximately 40 to 45 miles east to southeast from Loreto Bay with no luck. While fishing for dorado, we trolled with live mackerel along with an assortment of CD Rapalas and Yozuri Hydrosquirts. We then switched our game plan and geared down for the pargo and cabrilla.
My sons and I monitored the fish counts reported by the boats servicing the Hotel Camino Real and for the week, June 19th through the 26th, I recall only a total of three dorado and one sailfish being caught. The water temperature by touch felt close to the low 70's.
We fished on a 26-foot super panga from Arturo's Sport Fishing Fleet and our Captain was Ramon Baeza.
Although the fishing for dorado and sailfish was very slow, the inshore fishing for multiple species of pargo and cabrilla is currently very good. We boated over 90 fish in three days in the 5 to 20 pound range with the percentage mix of fish caught being 60/40 cabrilla over pargo.
We primarily used used live sardines on 20 to 30 pound test and fished off the north point of Carmen Island. UFO jigs in the brown/yellow and green/yellow patterns in the #3 and #5 sizes also worked well.
