DORADO STILL ELUSIVE FOR LOCAL BOATS

July 2-8, 2005, Patty Zapata, Hotel Oasis, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

For some reason the dorado (also mahi-mahi or dolphinfish) has not shown its strange shaped head yet. We are still waiting for them to appear this year in the Loreto vacation fishing area. Still, we had a 110-pound marlin caught this week, 20 miles north of Coronado Island, by Cliff O'Brien, who has the correct idea of releasing this fish, but after 1 hour and 10 minutes of fighting, it swallowed the entire hook and O'Brien had to bring that marlin on the boat with Martin Davis Castro as his captain.

Another 150 pound marlin was caught by Jeff Miller, 25 miles northeast of Coronado Island while trolling.

Richard Adams went 15 miles out from Punta Lobos and he brought in a 73 pound marlin with Poncho Susarrey as his captain.

Another enthusiastic fisherman this week was Robert Slater, who went 60 miles east from Isla del Carmen with Francisco Martinez, facing huge waves, and after a while trolling, since they couldn't see anything, they brought in some dorado, but not very big. The best weight was 22 pounds on the scale.
