FLY FISHING ANGLERS FIND GOOD MIXED SPECIES ACTION
July 23-29, 2005, Patty Zapata, Hotel Oasis, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:
This week few Dorado were still to be found even though the water temperature is now approximately 88 degrees in the Loreto fishing area. We have a group of fly fishing anglers and they have reported cabrilla, sailfish, marlin, and roosterfish, but few dorados.
On Wednesday the 27th, a panga from this group found a school of dorados outside of Coronado Island, but very small 10 and 11 pounds with Francisco Martinez as their captain.
On Saturday July 23rd, a child, Daniel, caught a Marlin of 55 pounds. He went out with his father John Bergman and when they were coming back empty handed the boy, almost in tears because they did not catch anything, started trolling and suddenly the marlin bit and was caught. The father was very very proud of his son.
On Friday 29th, George Smith another fly fisherman tried to catch a Dorado of 70 pounds that was under the boat, guided by Cap. Cano, asking to be caught and even though they put the bait out they lost it.
Finally Capt. Guino took David Whitaker and his party north of Coronado Island and they came back with three Dorados one of 30 pounds.
A grouper of 180 pounds was caught by Carlos Benziger on July 18th at Punta Lobos, and Ms. Kennedy caught a Roosterfish of 55 pounds on July 20th behind Carmen Island.
