JUST A FEW FISH CAUGHT IN 4 OUTINGS NORTH AND EAST OF TOWN
Aug. 14, 2005, Don Bear, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:
I fished at Loreto on Monday and Tuesday with Kent Baker of Loreto and Escondido on Kent's Cabo 216.
I fished Friday and today, Sunday, with Fabrizio Marangoni and Jerry Gaskins of Thousand Oaks and Camarillo on Fabrizio's Aquasport 210 CC.
All 4 fishing days, Capt. Paulino Martinez served as captain.
The total catch for the 4 days was 2 dorado to 12 lbs., 3 large yellowtail of 35 lbs., 3 cabrilla to 10 lbs., 6 pintos, 3 huachinangos and 1 mojarra.
Today we traveled 115 miles and had not a single strike.
All of our fishing has been north and east of Loreto.
Loreto fishing weather has been hot and humid, with mostly clear skies, generally pleasant seas, and water temperature as high as 86.4 degrees.
Bait has been variably available for purchase. On Tuesday and Friday we had to scavenge to make 8 or 10, supplemented by 4 squid.
Other Loreto fishing results also suggest good and bad days can be expected.
On Saturday, Francisco Martinez struck out completely, while his son Javier and Chopi Murillo found a log holding dorado. Between the two of them they nailed 13 dorado to 30 lbs. Today those two found the same log and caught 8 more. However, when we arrived there, six pangas were on the scene and not a one of them had a strike.
Fabrizio and Jerry fished out of Puerto Escondido on Monday and Wednesday with Jose Torres of Juncalito, catching two dorado, 3 huachinango, and a dozen other bottom fish over the two days.
Antonio Martinez fished the bajo at Mercenarios today and radioed us that he caught 14 yellowfin of football size.
