SPORTFISHING AT LA CHOLLA PRODUCES 50-POUND PLUS YELLOWTAIL

Dec. 13, 2005, Pam Bolles, Baja Big Fish Company, Loreto, Mexico, Baja California Sur, Sportfishing Report:

On Sunday, Loreto Capt. Nacho Quintero Rodriguez brought back a 50-plus pound yellowtail from off La Cholla on Isla Carmen. He described sea conditions as "very rough" and was back at port by 11 a.m., right when the nortes set in.

Loreto fishing conditions on Monday and Tuesday were much improved and boats are venturing to Punta Pulpito to check out the Yellowtail. Last we heard, that Cortez sportfishing area and the San Bruno area had easy limits of 20-25 pound class Yellowtail feeding at the bottom on live mackerel or jigs. The Yellowtail in all areas are reported to being feeding from off the bottom structure. The depths vary from 90 feet to almost 300 feet depending on where you're fishing.

Loreto water surface temperature, 63-73 degrees.
