LARGER BAJA DORADO CAUGHT TO 57 POUNDS BY LOCAL CHARTER FISHING BOATS
June 17, 2006, Patty Zapata, Hotel Oasis, Loreto, Mexico, sailfish and big dorado catches:
Loreto dorado action took place this week on big fish big between 57 to 18 pounds and small fish between 16 and 10 pounds. Loreto weather was excellent, sunny and calm sea, although one day, Thursday, had big waves outside of Carmen Island. Inside the bay of Loreto was like glass.
There were plenty of sailfish, marlin, tuna and dorados, big an small ones. The biggest dorado of 57 pound-class was caught 25 miles east Punta Lobos by Tim Tobin with Capt. Martín Perpuli. A 46 pounder was also caught by Mr. Miller with Capt. Poncho Susarrey, and a 37 pounder by Anthony Radoumis with Capt. Abraham Fernandez.
Six days of fishing at Loreto produced a combined catch including released fish of 24 dorados of 57 to 10 pounds, 3 Sailfish of 93 to 80 Pounds, 25 Tuna fish of 6 to 4 pounds; 1 Marlin of 105 Pounds; and 8 Sailfish released.
The main fishing area was between 25 and 35 miles east Punta Lobos on Carmen Island at Bajo de Lobos, in Mexico's southern Sea of Cortez.
Mackerel bait was available daily and P-Line 40 and 50 pound and hooks 8 and 7 were used for the catch. Anglers fishing included John Miller and son, John Beers and Randy Chippeaux, Mr. and Mrs. Stome, Jason and Bruce Devilbiss, Tim Tobin and Ken Holtvlvewer, Chum Hobson, Norren Sabard, and Darryl Wells, Harley and Dennis Delano, Anthony Radoumis and wife. The skippers fishing this week were Abraham Fernández, Martín Perpuli, Isidro Mendoza, Felipe Romero, Francisco Martínez Jr. and Senior, Servando Davis, Poncho Susarrey, Anastacio Quintana, and Alejandro Romero.
